another sucker...
well, i'm not usually a KAL joiner (they usually have a time limit, and that's just too much pressure!) but after such a lovely invite from anne, how could i say no? (especially since she was kind enough to send me a free pattern... nothing like a little bit of bribery!).
like anne, i've not previously been much of a red-wearer. but my brand new gray streaks (please tell me it gets easier after the first few) might go nicely with a red sweater. and then there's the gloomy, looming scottish winter which is fast approaching...
i bought a cone of cherry-red sock weight yarn with a plan of making a few pairs of great big knee-highs, but as my sock yarn stash is currently larger than i could ever knit in a lifetime, let alone wear, i've decided it might be better suited to a sweater. add in some wool/silk blend mystery yarn that a friend brought back from spain (also initially earmarked for socks), and a plan is starting to form...
i haven't found a pattern that i like yet, so i may be inventing my own (which will be a challenge, as i've only ever knit garments from patterns before).
something like this (excuse the bad drawing!!):
a slightly fitted but comfortable raglan v-neck, basic stockinette, but with a neckband, sleeve trim & sash (to make it look like a wrap-around, almost kimono style cardi) in the wool/silk yarn (maybe with a lace pattern on the trim as well?). obviously it's still in the preparation stages (although i have swatched, for once!) so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your sweater is going to be VERY nice! I have just one suggestion...because my daughter made a wrap around sweater...whatever the underneath part is going to be - remember that that adds "pounds", it adds another layer, so make it totally flat (otherwise it can look poochy)...

I am so happy that this RED sweater thing is happening!
Those red yarns of yours are both wonderful.
So long as your gray streaks aren't like *mine* you're doing fine. I have one on each side, and when I let them both show I look rather like Madeline Kaan in Young Frankenstein. LOL
briar rose, i totally agree - it's going to be a "faux-wrap" if i can figure out the shaping, so that it's all one piece but looks like a wrapover. that way there's no extra layer underneath (my stomach definitely doesn't need any additional help looking poochy!). :)
laura, your hair sounds great - i always thought really defined gray streaks were very cool.
that is really pretty lilith! and, gray hair had added lots of life to my formerly all-one-color head! everyone comments on my hair and tells me it's pretty, and i don't pay a salon one dime for the colors!
