Red Cabled Cardigan Progress Report

Just wanted to pop in to say that after a brief hiatus I am back to the red cabled cardigan. I am now done with the back, both sides of the front, one sleeve, and about halfway done with the second sleeve. After that it's just a matter of blocking, stiching and doing the collar/button-band which I plan to do in one piece. The pattern calls for a separate button band and collar, but I figured I would just do the whole thing using short-rows. Hopefully it will work out... Will post photos soon...

My First Red Sweather

Red Cabled Cardigan

I'm joining in! Red is my favorite color, and I have quite a bit of red yarn in my stash. Here is my current project, Paton's Cabled Cardigan, in a red wool-acrylic mix. (I know, I know, horror of horrors...Acrylic, but I am a poor graduate student with little time for handwashing.) Anyway, here is where it's at right now. Both sides of the front and the back done (modeled by my assistant - he know's red is his color too!) I am about half-way done with one sleeve as well. I have a blog about my other knitting pursuits as well.

Red baby sweater

A friend of mine had her second child, a son, last month. They didn't find out the gender beforehand, so last May I started this cardigan for her, on the theory that red would be appropriate no matter what flavor she got.

I finished the edges with applied I-cord, planning to put button loops on later ... only to find, when the time came (it's a boy!) that I didn't like the way they looked. So I added ties at the neck and am calling it a day.

New Member and Red Sweater

Hi! I just found this KAL today and have already joined. Thanks for the invitation!

My "Red Sweater" is the Must Have Cardigan from Paton's "Street Smarts". I am currently knitting the second sleeve and then have only to sew it together and knit the band. If anyone is interested in seeing the process, there are photos on my blog.

I look forward to seeing everyone's sweaters! I am already looking for another pattern for my next sweater.

I just joined this group and looking foward to knitting a red sweater.

Cast On

I've have cast on my red sweater, it is Isabella. I have completed the first row of eyelets on the back. I am really liking the look of the fabric but have never knit a top on such small needles with such fine yarn. I think it is going to take longer than I first anticipated but am hoping it will be worth it. The photo is that great as I am using straight short needles. I much prefer using circs but couldn't find wood or bamboo ones in the correct size. I have to use wood or bamboo as metal causes bad pain in my fingers.

I chose to turn the picot edge as I knit as I'm not great at sewing and use this method often when knitting socks .

Dale of Norway baby sweater... finished!

I'm so pleased that I finished this because I usually enjoy stranded knitting and this lace was hard. I had to revert to being a knitting student again complete with ripped out portions, etc.

Now I can concentrate on my favorite kind of knitting. Stranded color work... another Dale of Norway baby sweater for the same grandchild.

Tomato In Progress

This is my first post here and I am delighted to meet you all! I am currently working on my second red sweater Tomato--the first one being Poppy. I am really enjoying this knit and I must say the knitting seems to be cruising right along... I'm about 10 repeats away from separating for the sleeves so that I can increase on the chest area.
This is my first time knitting wity Blue Sky Dyed cotton---I am so loving the experience! I can hardly wait to have this little number off the needles for the summer:) Oh and the color --is the original colors Wendy Bernard used for her design Tomatoe and . I love reds! Can you tell?

Dale of Norway baby sweater

After I stumbled across the KAL red sweater blog June 1, I thought that it would motivate me to begin this new sweater for my granddaughter that I had been procrastinating. While I love stranded color work knitting, I have only knit one or two lace items. Both were quite simple and completed with great difficulty. That was several years ago and I have been avoiding lace ever since. But, time to learn something new!

I have made progress on this baby cardigan, but had to rip out and reknit many rows when my count got off and the pattern became randomly lateral instead of uniformly vertical and horizontal. I am so easily exasperated with this. Luckily, I am making a size 2, and my granddaughter is 2 months old so I should be able to finish it in time… even with all the stops and starts.

20 & 21 / 52

Looking back, I thought I had already posted pair 20, but realized that I ran out of time the other day.
Pair 20 -
Is medium weight Fire on the Mountain from STR. Just a simple 4/1 rib over 65 stitches on 2,5 mm needles.


Pair 21 -
Victorian Lace from the 6 Sox KAL are finished. Since I am not planning on wearing these with sandals, I ended the lace partway down the top of the sock and finished it with 4x4 ribbing.

Knit out of Angel Seawool from Fleece Artist on 2,5 mm needles. Once I memorized the 12 row pattern (which really is many less rows) it went incredibly rapidly.

Since I am out in the field playing Army for the next couple of weeks, it turns out I have lots of knitting time. Rest of the details can be found here.

I knit the Medallion Cardigan pattern by Meg Swansen from her book Knitting. The original pattern is in white and black. Me? of course I had to make it Red!

Modifications: I made the neckline bigger by deepening the V. I lengthened the hood using one of his hoodies as a comparison.

Technique Learned: Grafting garter stitches.


The pocket was the first piece knitted up but as you can see a month later I haven't sewn it on yet.

Red, red, red

I eventually could log to blogger and can post again. As said in my previous post, this time some bright red sweater. The original is yellow (mustard) and taken from a Rebecca magazine. It's knitted 2 years ago in a synthetic fiber, but has a soft smooth touch...I love it. The back is same as front but less deeper. I still have enough of that yarn to knit something else...lucky,lucky.

I didn't intend to post about my big red jacket today, but as I also have issues uploading images (pop-up window gets blocked) as I could get it done, I post everything now.

This jacket is so bright that I had to set my camera very dark to make it appear normal. The original design is from another german magazine: Verena. It used to be blue and using a special astrakan pattern. I used a regular knit pattern, but with 3 yarns held together(bright red, burgundy and a multi-colors). The trims are also using some sort of hairy yarn and knit in a brioche pattern.

I hope next post will be about a summer sweater or tank that I will knit

From out of nowhere

This sweater knit up so quickly that I didn't get around to posting any progress photos at all! This was started as a project to use up 4 100g skeins of DK acrylic that I bought a couple of years ago and had never gotten around to using. I was looking for a casual top that I would wear often and be happy to throw in the washer.


Pattern: Lola, free pattern from Berocco
Yarn: James Brett Marble, Berries colourway
Modifications: omitted the novelty yarn trim, made the sleeves top-down, and much shorter than the pattern, added keyhole slit to the neck, and changed neck edging to one row of single crochet.

As you can see, I modified the pattern quite a bit, mainly because I didn't have enough yarn for the original long sleeves. I guess the slip-stitch ribbing ate up a lot more yarn than I had anticipated. I had one ball of yarn left by the time the front and back were done, so I divided it evenly by weight, started the sleeves from the top, and stopped when I ran out.

The result is a soft, cozy top that is perfect for lounging on chilly spring days. It was different to go back to acrylic, which I haven't touched in a while, but I have to say this is a nice soft acrylic, affordable, and easy to care for. And I'm a sucker for self-striping yarn! It would be great for kids clothes.

First Post and First Sweater

I started my red sweater a couple years ago. Its mostly stocking stitch and I got bored real fast. So it became a lovely UFO. Id spy it hiding in a drawer now and then but never really felt like pickign it up. THen I found this KAL and thought, hey, I can finish that thing. The yarn (Homepsun stuff from Lion Brand) is soft and cozy, so Im looking forward to wearing it!

When I got all the peices out, I discovered I had some how knit two backs. UHG!! I did have one arm pretty much done, though, so I was enthused. I got to work on the other arm. It went pretty fast and it helped alot to read here and see how everyone else was doing.

I finally got the front,back and arms sewn all together only to see that I had made the arms a couple inches too long and the body wasnt long enough! Poop! But, hey, its still lookin ok fer my first sweater :)

I added a few inches of double crochet to the body hem. And after looking at the arms for a bit, I decided I didnt mind them a little long. Cozier that way!

So now Im working on the hood. It calls for circulars but the only size I have was one a little too small. Its taking ages to knit! The stitches are smaller so I have to do more, you know? But it will be fine once Im done. Then I was going to crochet around the front of the hood instead of knit and then make a souped up pocket for the front.

Here she is so far!Thats one of my tooties, Weem, lovin up my sweater. She adores anything knitted!
