One Year Later!

It took a year but it's finished and I'm pleased as can be with the results.



A bit of background since it's been so long in the making.
Yarn: Briar Rose Fibers Sonoma (This particular colorway is sold out) Chris donated this yarn for the first Red Letter Day here at the Red Sweater KAL. Chris sent two skeins with approximately 487 yds each in matching but different colorways. The yarns were alternated with every round. The sweater came down to the wire with the yarn, I really could have used about 10 more yards to tidy up along the neck. The second sleeve was moving right along when I read that seed stitch uses up a lot of yarn. If I'd known that sooner I wouldn't have put so much seed stitch in the pattern.

Pattern: Started out using the basic Pure & Simple pattern but quickly realized I wanted my own design. Which really isn’t something I advise a rank new sweater maker to undertake. With the exception of a newborn sweater I made for Faith about the time I received this yarn, I’d yet to knit a sweater. By the time I’d hit the area of joining the arms the pattern was discarded. Top down, knit in the round.

Needles: Jenkins US9 24″ Circulars
Project on Needles: 1 year

This sweater is super comfortable and the colors are great. (Second picture is truest colorwise.) This is a sweater that will be worn to death. :-)

A red Sadie

Now I've started my Sadie-knit. The yarn is lovely, soft and nice to knit. I look forward to be finished but I have a lot ongoing projects so it will maybe take some time.

Cables With Heart

I'm happy to be a member of Red Sweater KAL. I really love the color red and just for now I have two projects in red yarn.
1. A red moebius shawl in Garnstudio's Silke-Tweed and Vivaldi (mohair). I think I finish it tonight because it's not much left.




2. My next knit project is a Sadie cardigan in red Silky wool from Elsebeth Lavold.

I'm finished!

I actually finished it a few months ago but was waiting for the right buttons!

This isn't a very good picture, but was snapped early in the morning after dressing for work, but it is RED, a Knit Picks Alpacha and Silk yarn, and Jean Frost jacket design. I altered the pattern by adding bust darts. I'm very pleased with the fit -except that I wish the sleeves were a "tad" longer - maybe a full inch. I find that I tug at the sleeves on a regular basis.

The buttons were purchased at the Stitches Midwest Market from the Geddes Studio http://www.geddesstudio.com I purchased fused glass pins and buttons from them before at Stitches West, so I was thrilled to find them at Ss Midwest this year. I think I have more money in the buttons than in the yarn!

I'm wearing the sweater to work this week and getting great compliments. It is professional enough to team with pants and not look too casual, thanks Jean Frost!

a new red swear for me

i've been meaning to knit this sweater for over a year, ever since we started this KAL!
red cardigan of my own design, knit with briar rose grandma's blessing on size 3 needles.
everything felt right about this project from the start. a few bumps in the road at the blocking stage, but all's well that ends well, and i finally have myself a much-needed new sweater. it also feels good to accomplish a knitting goal that's been on the fire for a while.

Hi! I'm "Ai ferri corti" (that literally means "short needles", i.e. needles that were used for socks knitting in Italy) and I'm from Italy. First of all I would like to thank Anne and Laura for inviting me to join to this wonderful KAL. I'm very happy about it because... I'm knitting a red sweater (mohair by Bertagna Filati in the picture) and because I have the possibility to learn (a lot) from such a group of knitters!

Since I'm Italian and my English/American is not really good, do not hesitate to correct words/sentences and so on! I think this will improve my English too!

Could it be?

Could I actually be finished my Samus for this KAL? I believe I started it last November, but maybe it was October. I'm not sure. New to the KAL

Hi everyone! I am excited to join this KAL for 3 reasons.
1) I love red! It is most definitely my favorite color.
2) I love knitting!
3) I have nothing in my wardrobe that is red and hand knit.

Therefore, I must join although I have 6 WIPs and at least 30 projects waiting in my stash closet. Since none of those projects were red, I had to go buy more stash! Which I love doing about as much as knitting. This is what I bought.



The Patons was on sale at Michaels for $3.79 this week. I am trying to decide between these two projects.

What do you think? I am leaning at doing the vest because I am afraid the Patons wool may be too scratchy against my skin. But I have yet to knit an adult size Aran sweater. Isn't knitting great there is always something you can do that you've never done before and you can spend your entire lifetime challenging yourself.

a new red sweater for me

gosh it's been forever since i posted here, but i started a new little red cardigan and laura prompted me to share it. this is the sweater i meant to knit last year, but never did. i'm using briar rose grandma's blessing in a gorgeous blood-red color, and working up my own design.



so far i have one front piece completed and part of the other. i usually start with a sleeve, but decided that i needed to see the buttonbands and neckline before i went on to the rest.

i am knitting it on size 3 needles and couldn't be happier with how it is turning out. i'd like to have it done to wear to rhinebeck.

Hi everyone

Hi everyone. Thanks for inviting me to join this KAL. I'm casting on this 'Ink Flared Sweater' tomorrow, in a deep red yarn. It's a free pattern available on the Black Dog Designs website.

Although I've many WIPs at the moment, I hope to get this jumper knitted over this month while watching the Rugby World Cup on television! Red sweater for Wales, after all!

I'm loving reading about everybody's knitting projects. Will let you know how my sweater comes along!

Finished!!!

Actually, I finished over a week ago but I haven't had a chance to take photos and blog about it. I ran out of yarn for the shawl collar so I went with just a ribbed edge. It's not ideal, but I still like the sweater. Plus, I'm trying to stash-bust and so I didn't want to go buy MORE yarn just for that. Overall, I think I'll get lots of use out of this sweater when it finally cools down around here! P.S. Note the kitty toy my "assistant" left in the photo.

Red Cabled Cardigan Progress Report

Just wanted to pop in to say that after a brief hiatus I am back to the red cabled cardigan. I am now done with the back, both sides of the front, one sleeve, and about halfway done with the second sleeve. After that it's just a matter of blocking, stiching and doing the collar/button-band which I plan to do in one piece. The pattern calls for a separate button band and collar, but I figured I would just do the whole thing using short-rows. Hopefully it will work out... Will post photos soon...

My First Red Sweather

Hello everyone, its wonderful to have join this knit along. i have the perfect pattern for my red sweater. i will be using Cascade 220 color: cherry and the pattern is from Knit Scene Fall 2007 the Central Park Hoodie by Heather Lodinsky.. happy knitting

Red Cabled Cardigan

I'm joining in! Red is my favorite color, and I have quite a bit of red yarn in my stash. Here is my current project, Paton's Cabled Cardigan, in a red wool-acrylic mix. (I know, I know, horror of horrors...Acrylic, but I am a poor graduate student with little time for handwashing.) Anyway, here is where it's at right now. Both sides of the front and the back done (modeled by my assistant - he know's red is his color too!) I am about half-way done with one sleeve as well. I have a blog about my other knitting pursuits as well.

Red baby sweater

A friend of mine had her second child, a son, last month. They didn't find out the gender beforehand, so last May I started this cardigan for her, on the theory that red would be appropriate no matter what flavor she got.

I finished the edges with applied I-cord, planning to put button loops on later ... only to find, when the time came (it's a boy!) that I didn't like the way they looked. So I added ties at the neck and am calling it a day.

Hi! I just found this KAL today and have already joined. Thanks for the invitation!

My "Red Sweater" is the Must Have Cardigan from Paton's "Street Smarts". I am currently knitting the second sleeve and then have only to sew it together and knit the band. If anyone is interested in seeing the process, there are photos on my blog.

I look forward to seeing everyone's sweaters! I am already looking for another pattern for my next sweater.
